John Lwande

Program Director, Africa Board Fellowship, Accion Centre for Financial Inclusion

Mr. Lwande leads Accion’s Africa Board Fellowship program, which is dedicated to strengthening governance and risk-management practices and developing strategic leadership abilities throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

He has over 25 years of experience in microfinance management, banking and credit. Prior to joining Accion, John was seconded by Accion to Akiba Commercial Bank, a microfinance bank in Tanzania, as Managing Director from 2008 to 2015. During this time he also served as board chairman of Umojaswitch. John has extensive experience in governance, having served on numerous boards throughout his career.

He holds a BA in political economy from Makerere University, and has earned multiple certificates in management training and executive leadership. He lives in Nairobi, Kenya.
